Enzymes are the proteins that enhance the rate of a reaction. They are similar to catalyst.Enzymes help to control metabolic reactions in organisms. Enzymes have the ability to increase a reaction without the need for an increased in temperature is very important to living systems because a significant temperature increase can destroy cellular proteins. Enzymes lower the activation energy required for a reaction and increase for a reaction to start.
