This might not help but this is how you would work the problem if it was the other way around. The original price of a shirt is $100 now the shirt it 30% off so you multiply 100 and .30 which gets you $30. Then you subtract $100 from $30 which gets you $70 which is now your cost on sale. which now you have to find 50% off your sale price($70) which would become $35 after you multiply 50% and $70 then you would subtract $70 from $35 which gets you your final cost.
