In your own words, define alcoholism and describe two ways in which alcohol contributes to societal problems.
Alcoholism is a disease that is often inherited by our genes (DNA). People who are alcoholics do not seem to be able to digest the sugars that are found in alcohol and it is hard for them to stop drinking once they have taken the first drink as it is addictive. Alcoholism destroys many families as the person who has the disease it becomes their number one priority and they often ignore their family obligations. Alcoholism also changes a person's judgement when they are under the influence, it makes them think they can drive a car when they are legally impaired and has caused the death of many innocent lives. It has destroyed many good people and our prisons are full of people who suffer with the disease of addiction. It also costs insurance costs to increase as people who are alcoholics have many health issues caused by drinking.
