In addition to patronage, merchant families during the Renaissance began toeducate their sons, ofcourse merchants educated their sons before in various of way but they were mainly focus one conomic education and secodary on the rest alothoug the son wished to be an academic  during culture movments which in 19 c. was named 'renaissance' merchants educated their sons also in artistic way  which wasn't a main target of education of that social class before (and doughters also were educated in that way there was no strict limitations on education form women during high and late Middle Ages)
