A. A mutation changes the sequence of DNA bases in a gene.  A mutation is any change that affects the sequence of nitrogenous bases in DNA. These bases form the code for amino acids to be attached in growing peptide chain, and hence are crucial for proper functioning of protein. Mutations could include replacement of one base with another, deletion of bases, addition of bases or frame shift mutations. Hence, any change caused in DNA sequence is referred to as mutation and that change is translated into mRNA and then into protein, eventually affecting the functioning of cell.
