False.  They were allies of the French. It began in 1603 when they met Samuel de Champlain where he formed an alliance with some of the tribes.  Later the French traded Muskets with them and fought alongside them during the French-Indian War also known as the Seven Years’ War. The allies of the British were the Iroqouis.
