During the Golden Age of Athens, a tribute was a tax paid to the empire. There was also the tax paid by allies to Athens for getting protection and other facilities. The period of 5th century BCE was considered the Golden Age of Athens due to the cultural achievements during this period. Numerous scholars were also born in Athens during this time. Minting of Athenian coins was one of the great achievements during this period. Athens received tributes from the states at regular intervals during this era.

The answer is B - a tax paid to the empire.  During the Golden Age of Athens, the wealth of this city state expanded greatly and this lead them to have more power than theyhad before this time period. Due to their power, they imposed a tribute tax, which was paid by towns under Athenian protection/under the Athenian Empire.
