A two-party system refers to a party system where only two major political parties are dominating the race in government position. A multiparty system is where a number of political parties can participate in a national elections and have equal chances of gaining control in the government offices.  The US is currently using the two-party system where the house of representatives is composed of the democrats and republicans.
