You could write this as an equation and then solve, so: x + 2x + x + 5 = 33 4x + 5 = 33 - 5 4x = 28 ÷ 4 x = 7 So the first piece is 7 feet, 7 × 2 = 14 feet, which is the second piece, and 7 + 5 = 12 feet, which is the third piece. I hope this helps!
