# A field 210 ft by 300 ft is filled with birds. If there are approximately 2 birds per square yard, how many birds are there in the field?

First you have to convert feet to yards so the dimensions are changes to 70 yd by 100 yd. Multiply 70 x 100 to find the area which is 700 yd²  Then set up a proportion where x is equal to the number of birds in the whole field: $\frac{2 birds}{1 yd} = \frac{x birds}{700yd}$ Cross multiply to get x = 1400. Therefore there are 1,400 birds in the field.
