Activities and Objectives
Integrated in the University Institute of European Studies (IUEE), GREPI - Research Group on the Political Economy of Integration - is a group of researchers focused on European integration and the external economic relations of the EU.
GREPI was constituted in 2006 thanks to a grant of UAB-DURSI, which allowed the group to become part of the research team of IUEE, strengthening the research profile of the Institute in the field of European integration, by creating a new line of investigation focused on International Political Economy.
Within this area, the objective of the group is the analysis of the economic relations of the EU with other regions of the world, mainly Latin America and the Mediterranean, benefitting from the curricular excellence of its members in this field, especially the seniors researchers. The studies are developed through concrete applications of the economic flows (investment, commerce, and migrations), the economic institutions and the human and social capital.
Regarding Latin America, the group draws on the consistent expertise of its coordinator who participated on behalf of IUEE in organizing a program of Master of the UAB in México on European Integration, an initiative that was financed by the European Commission and to which UAB has given continuity. Furthermore, in the field of the economy of the Mediterranean, the coordinator has investigated and published extensively. Also, he represents IUEE an active member of FEMISE (network of research centers on the Mediterranean economy promoted by the European Union). Both research areas of the group are integrated in the studies of the Specialization in Economy of the Master of European integration of UAB, coordinated by the IUEE.
The team of GREPI is composed of researchers (doctors and PhD candidates) with a solid formation in the field of European integration, who were specialized as researchers of the IUEE and who currently continue their investigation in other centers and doctorate programs. The students of the Doctorate in International Relations and European Integration, who follow the lines of investigation on economic integration, are also members of this research group.
